Marie and Alan gift

To Members and friends. We were so pleased and grateful for that lovely award, we are going to call it ‘Our memories of Downton’. A really truly tasteful piece of art. We never expected that. The voucher for the garden will be very useful and I think we may buy a particular garden ornament to remind us of our bowling friends. As many of you may not have seen the lovely prismatic gift we enclose an image. Once again a huge thank you. [image0.jpeg]

[uncategorised] [B&D Presentation Lunch]

Paul & I travelled to the Suncliff Hotel in Bournemouth, to collect the awards (see below) for the Bustards finishing as runners up in the B&DBA League 2024, Triples Section 5 (Saturdays).
Congratulations & thank you to everyone who played for the Bustards. These are for us to keep & will be displayed at the clubhouse.
We were joined by another 142 B&D club members, who were all treated to a lovely three course meal. We were on a table with some of our good friends from Milton-on-Sea, who were runners up in section 3.
Fortunately, they started with section 6, so we didn’t have to wait too long!
As both our team are scheduled to play in section 4 next season, hopefully we can return next year to claim both the winners & the runners up awards.

The core team of Steve, Dawn, Charles, Cathy, Lynda & Colin played the bulk of the matches. Due to holidays, sickness & prior engagements, the following help out. Paul Bromage ,John James, Nick Purkis and Alan & Rosemary Foster.

Greenkeeper’s Competition

Eight players came together for the 2024 Greenkeeper’s Competition, organised by Marie. It was a lovely day, with a first round of twelve ends followed by a semifinal of a further twelve ends.

The final was between Charles and Marie (the club gardener) and Charles won the Trophy.

Ivor Fourmy Trophy 2024

Well Gentlemen, we did not pull it off in the Ivor Fourmy Trophy Final at Fordingbridge against Lyndhurst.  Amazing the number of times in these aggregate matches that the team taking the early lead end up losing, which is exactly how it happened on Saturday.

Downton were at least 6 ahead after five ends, only to be over come by 15 shots by the 18th end. Credit to Geoff, Ivan and Martin who won their rink, unfortunately the rest of us could not support them. Never mind, as someone said ” for a small club we hit above our weight”.

This of course is true  on how we can also host finals at Downton on the same day: most of the men being at Fordingbridge during the morning. Well done to our people on the ground to see through the Finals day there.

Regards

Alan
